Baptism, Weddings & Funerals

For many, Baptism is the first step to becoming a member of the Christian family. It is a way of meeting with God and joining the Church, and can be the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith in Jesus. Often, Baptism happens when you are a baby or young child, but we welcome anyone for Baptism at St Richard’s – whatever their age!

Baptisms are conducted during our main service on the 1st Sunday of each month, when we hold a family friendly ‘Come & Worship’ service. This service is especially suitable for families with children, or those who have not attended Church that often and would like to learn more about the life and teachings of Jesus.

The congregation at St Richard’s always enjoy welcoming people for Baptism, and you can be sure of a warm welcome to the Christian family when you come to Church for this special event.

If you have already been baptised and you are ready to make a further commitment to Christ as a young person or adult, you may wish to consider Confirmation. This is a service in which you can declare your faith and your intention to live in the way of Christ for all the days of your life. Our Vicar will be pleased to discuss the details of this with you and arrange for a Confirmation course to prepare you. Confirmations usually happen twice a year with other candidates from nearby Churches.

Losing someone can be a very difficult time, but at St Richard’s we can look to support you in several ways.

We would be pleased to help you plan the funeral service for your loved one so they can be committed to God’s care. Our Minister will meet with you to find out what you would like included in the funeral service, and can help with choosing hymns and readings if you feel unsure or no direct wishes were left. It’s important to us that the funeral service is a fitting tribute to the departed, and we will always try to include any personal touches that you tell us about.

The funeral service will include prayers for your loved one, and for you and your family at this sad time. We will also ensure that the service celebrates the life of the departed, and our Minister will commit them to God’s eternal care.

Our Minister is available for funeral both in the Church and also at Crematorium if this is required.

St Richard’s Church can offer further support after the funeral while you are grieving, or if you have recently been bereaved. Please contact us to find out more about how we can support you through this difficult time.
